ModelAge (A Common Formal
Model for Cooperating Intelligent Agents)
The concept of agent is currently emerging as an important
concept in many fields of Information Technology, namely Requirements
Engineering, Software Design, Data Bases, Expert Systems (Artificial
Intelligence), Organization Theory. In each of these disciplines, a
formal modeling of the concept of agent, its capabilities and
its cooperation with other agents has emerged as an important topic. A
slightly different understanding of the concept is used in each
discipline, but the important similarities make us believe that a
common, richer model may be found. The many formalisms used in each
discipline could then be grounded in this common semantic framework,
allowing an integrated multi-formalism approach. The working group
ModelAge will gather experts from each of the disciplines mentioned
above to enable interdisciplinary cross-fertilization. The long-term
goal is to establish a common formal model for the concept of agent.
