Automotive - Virtual Engineering

Reference data models for mechatronic design, modeling, and simulation

Project Description

The project is integrated into the Automotive research cluster at University of Magdeburg. In detail, the project is part of the project cluster Virtual Engineering (VE). The project cluster's targeted objective is the support of product design by holistic modeling and simulation based on automatic generation of problem aware models. The models can be controlled according their complexity and level of detail. In summary, todays heterogeneous methods and tools of Virtual Engineering are extended and integrated. Furthermore, results of design and simulations have to be presented in Virtual Reality environments.

The project Reference data models for mechatronic design, modeling, and simulation will provide the required model and data management of the project cluster that extends current PDM-, PLC-, and CAD-systems. During product design and development many teams have to together. The projects objective is the consistent management of form, behaviour, and function models, simulation results, and their dependencies as well as the management of meta data during the Virtual Engineering process.

The basic concept is the product component that encapsulates all information, models of an artifact, a group of artifacts, etc. In the first step a data model is developed to describe product components. One component should contain different form, behavior, and function models and will be composable and adaptable through interfaces and parameters. In this way, a component library is built.

The second part of the project develops conceptual methods for describing process in Virtual engineering as well as for evolution of product components and their instances. Versions, variants as well as compositions of components are conceptually modelled. Additionally, formal process models support the description of steps during VE process. Both together - compoment models and process models - will be the reference data model of a VE system.

The third goal is the development of interactive algorithms using information from the reference database. The algorithms should support the optimized creation of simulation and the automatic transformation of models using rules on semi-structured data. Finally, the reference model as well as the algorithms have to be implemented and tested togehter with the other projects on real world examples in the area of automotive
